Classes range from preparing healthy snacks with pre-schoolers to fostering cooking skills in teens to allow independent meal preparation. All our classes have a significant hands-on approach to learning. Upbeet Nutrition can help your children:

AroundtheWorldCookingSchool-aged children (grades 1-6) use child-friendly knives and equipment to prepare and sample global foods, following recipe ideas from Mexico, France, Belgium, Italy, the Middle East, Asia and the UK

6-8 week course, 1 hour per week

Mostly hands-on-practice with instructor demonstrations

CookItUpaNotch For pre-teens and teens wanting to become more comfortable in the kitchen. Wash, chop, dice, mix, and turn fresh ingredients into appetizing and tantalizing creations while learning the basics of food preparation including safe knife-handling skills. Come away with:

  • basic food preparation skills and nutrition principles, introduced progressively throughout the weekly classes
  • safe food-handling skills
  • knowledge of how to choose and read recipes and make simple meals from foods on-hand
  • recipes for quick and tasty breakfast, lunch, after-school and dinner items

6 week course, 1.5 hours per week

3-hour Workshop

Mainly hands-on cooking with brief slide presentation and instructor demonstrations

FoodMattersHave you ever wondered how grapes become raisins, what makes bread rise and why you don’t taste food when you have a cold? In this class you will explore a variety of food-related topics through experimentation and tasting and learn why food really matters.

Come away with:

  • An introduction to the science of food
  • Having each week explored a different food theme including food chemistry, sensory evaluation, microbiology, food processing and many more
