For his birthday, one of our young adults living away from home, requested a set of spices in jars that could be easily be refilled with fresh spices bought from a bulk store. This way he could buy in smaller quantities as needed.

At Upbeet Nutrition, we use small preserving jars to store our herbs and spices. We decided these weren’t the optimum solution taking up too much space and headed to the local dollar store. At 3 for $1, their basic empty glass containers with screw top lids were perfect. Teamed with a couple of handy storage containers with handles at $2.50 a piece and labels at $1 a packet, the perfect travelling spice set was born. To complete the gift, the jars were filled to appropriate levels and a set of measuring spoons designed to fit narrow openings added. When our young adult moved apartments, his spice kit was ready to go!

So if you have a young adult returning to school or moving out or even for the cottage next summer, consider putting one together for the road.
